DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe, well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community.  To achieve this mission, HPARD seeks an Inspector to join its Greenspace Management/Quality Assurance team.  
 
The Inspector primarily provides inspection services within city parks for safety and quality of work. Correct safety hazards as needed. Ensure that parks are maintained and meet safety regulatory guidelines.  Prepares, conducts, and schedules inspections of esplanades and parks. Ensure proper maintenance of playground equipment, irrigation system and park amenities.  Perform record keeping activities to maintain a filing system and documentation in the common database, such as Mapper, Cityworks, & 3-1-1. . Plans, executes, and work with contractors on permits on esplanades. Must have clear and concise communication skills and be factual and impartial in rendering judgment. Job may require working weekends and/or holidays. Performs other duties and activities that may be required during operations.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/ wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.Preference will be given to candidates with:
Ground maintenance and previous supervisory experience. Also, candidates who served as a crew lead in the field. Prior park maintenance /inspections experience. CDL license and pesticide applicator's license are desirable but not required. Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel programs, and working an Android tablet to upload information/ photos in the field.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**  SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED

Pay Grade 18

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
