MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from high school or GED; experience in basic bookkeeping and record keeping; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license from state in which employee resides.
NATURE OF WORK
This is a routine but responsible position calling for accuracy, dependability and responsibility in the monitoring and maintenance of parking meters, meter collection and general maintenance and custodial work for the Huntington Municipal Parking Board. Work involves the writing of parking tickets, collection of money from parking meters and manual labor in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, lots and parking garage. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parking Field Supervisor/Downtown Events Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Checks parking meters and issues tickets; reports meters needing repairs.
Installs parking meter poles and parking meters.
Replaces parts in digital parking meters, including digital timer, plastic globes and coin trays.
Checks citizen-reported complaints of broken, malfunctioning, missing or vandalized meters.
Paints meter posts and attaches signs, numbers, lettering, or Parkmobile stickers when instructed.
Assists with temporary posting of cardboard signs for events, construction, or other special functions.
Watches for stolen cars and reports such to Huntington Police Department; checks license plates for unpaid citations and tickets; applies vehicle immobilizers when necessary.
Collects money from parking meters and transports to office.
Responsible for cleaning HMPB facilities on a daily basis, including buildings, grounds, lots and parking garage; assists in weed and snow removal.
Assists with special events parking and may direct flow of traffic on parking lots or in garage.
May assist or fill in for other Municipal Parking Board employees as needed.
Assists public, i.e., directions and helping in emergency situations, including basic first aid.
Promotes courtesy and professionalism throughout the City of Huntington.
Other duties as assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of city streets.
Knowledge of basic bookkeeping practices and procedures.
Skill in the operation of assigned equipment.
Physical ability to handle collection equipment and walk long distances.
Ability to work outdoors under all weather conditions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public and to deal with problems courteously and tactfully.
TOOL AND EQUIPMENT USED
Motor vehicle, telephone, computer/ticket writer, collection cart, meter keys, two-way radio, vehicle immobilizer, broom, dust pan, leaf blower, weed eater, hand tools, and air compressor equipment.
