Rate of Pay: $18.50 hourly; plus cell phone reimbursement
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Parks Manager, the employee performs duties relating to the maintenance of the park and municipal sites and grounds throughout the City. This is a full-time, non-exempt position working approximately 40 hours/week. Must be available to work evenings and weekend hours as assigned for maintenance and special events. The position may require overtime.
Essential Job Functions
- Possesses excellent customer service skills and can excel at applying the City of Hurst’s Code of Ideals and Good to Great practices in all interpersonal relationships with city staff and the public.
- Operates a variety of motorized equipment such as tractors with various attachments, top dressers, aerators, paint sprayers, and other related maintenance and landscape equipment.
- Perform tasks related to the maintenance and preparation of pavilions, restrooms, and other park amenities.
- Perform tasks related to the maintenance and safety of playgrounds.
- Perform tasks related to daily maintenance of parks and facilities, including trash collection and removal.
- Perform tasks related to the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields, parklands, and other municipal grounds, clean restrooms, and assist in the maintenance of park facilities.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping and plant materials; assist with landscape installation and maintenance.
- Perform preventative inspections and maintenance on equipment as assigned; complete reports as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of repair and maintenance of facilities such as restrooms, fountains, lighting systems, fences, playground equipment and, pools.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping and plant materials.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation and irrigation repair.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work cooperatively with co-workers.
- Ability to learn to operate and maintain equipment and tools used to maintain City facilities and to learn and obey safety procedures.
- Ability to work weekday, evening, and weekend hours as assigned for maintenance and special events.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
1. Ability to perform strenuous physical activity, including pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, twisting, standing, and walking, for extended periods of time in adverse conditions, including extreme heat, cold, moisture, dust, and fumes, at various heights, and in confined spaces.
2. Majority of work is performed outdoors and is subject to extreme heat and sun or inclement weather.
3. Fine dexterity with fingers and hands required to handle items and operate the equipment.
4. Ability to see clearly and distinguish colors when working with chemicals.
5. Moderate to heavy lifting and carrying, up to 80 pounds.
6. Ability to orally direct guests and staff in emergency and non-emergency situations.
7. Work may be subject to time pressures, frequent changes to tasks, working closely with others as part of a team, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, and dealing with difficult persons.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and one-year related experience preferred. Must possess a valid state of Texas Driver's License with a good driving record required. Candidate must have a personal electronic device capable of making and receiving phone calls, and sending and receiving text messages. The City incorporates into the hourly rate, a reimbursement for the business usage of the personal electronic device.
