Job Summary
Coordinates and directs the work of crew in street and drainage maintenance and weed control. Operates street maintenance equipment and assists in planning, scheduling equipment, personnel and materials on job assignments.
Job Scope
Coordinates and directs the work of crew. No budgetary responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions
1. COORDINATES and DIRECTS crew in the repair and resurfacing of streets.
2. SHOVELS asphalt from back of dump truck (avg. load = 22 lbs.).
3. ASSISTS in lifting paving fabric from ground to install on machine (load = 140 lbs.).
4. MOVES jack hammer from storage (load = 93 lbs.).
5. MOVES concrete from storage on truck to bumper for mixing (load = 80 lbs.).
6. CLEANS and REPAIRS drainage systems including weed control.
7. OPERATES and PERFORMS service and minor maintenance on equipment.
8 WORKS on mosquito control program.
9. PREPARES records and reports.
10. PERFORMS other related duties as assigned.
11. REQUIRED to work stand-by duty and overtime, as needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Ability to learn and adhere to the City of Hurst Code of Ideals.
2. Skills in equipment operation and equipment personnel scheduling using transit to set and transit to check grades.
3. Skills in repairing streets with concrete and asphalt.
4. Knowledge of safety procedures and traffic control in work areas and of proper use of chemicals.
5. Ability to read and follow safety rules, City rules and codes, and instruction on proper use of chemicals.
6. Ability to follow oral and written instructions to complete an assigned job.
7. Ability to work and communicate effectively orally and in writing with the City personnel and the public.
8. Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare clear and concise written reports.
9. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including standing, bending, stooping, lifting, pulling and pushing, for long periods of time in all types of weather, at various heights, and in confined areas.
10. Data entry of WORK Orders and maintenance of records.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent, one or more years directly related experience, and a valid State of Texas Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and ability to obtain Class A license with a tanker endorsement required.
