The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is currently accepting applications for a Police Records Clerk. The position is combination day shift and second shift (4 pm to midnight) relief position. The employee will be working second shift for several weeks of the year. The department has a tattoo policy. The work in this class involves varied clerical tasks; does related work as required. Work assignments are such that they may be learned after a short training period. Specific and detailed instructions are given to new employees, and accompany any subsequent new assignments. After the initial training period, supervision is limited to a review and check of the work upon completion. Questions or problems arising from the work are referred to a supervisor for decision. Accuracy in the filing and completion of reports is extremely important. Meeting and dealing with requests from the public in a cooperative manner is also required. The employee will transact money and must maintain and balance a cash drawer. Establishing and maintaining harmonious relationships with coworkers and the public is essential. The employee maintains a complex, but pre-designed clerical record system and provides fiscal or immediate reports from the records system; employee does related tasks as required.
Requirements for Education and Experience: completion of high school or GED and some experience in computer data entry and records maintenance; employee must be proficient in modern office practices, procedures, equipment and basic computer skills, and be able to learn new tasks and software programs; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. NCIC certification/test required, training provided. No criminal history; a background investigation will be completed. Pre-employment physical and drug screening required.
