This position works a 36-hour workweek: Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 3:00pm

Position Function
  • Under the direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation and/or Designee, performs assigned duties to support the Parks Maintenance Division to ensure the proper maintenance of City parks, grounds, green spaces, athletic fields, and common areas for City owned property and/or facilities providing for a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment.

    Performs duties necessary to support the Parks Maintenance Division to ensure the proper maintenance, repair and care of City parks, grounds, green spaces, right-of-ways, ponds, swells, berms, athletic fields, community and common areas for City owned property and/or facilities providing for a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment. Responsible for the care and replacement of plants and trees to include, but not limited to: raking, pruning, mulching, clearing, planting, minor irrigation install and repair, mowing, weeding, edging and painting. Responsible for safely using and proper care and maintenance of all tools and equipment necessary to complete projects, assignments and/or tasks.

    Responsible for preparing for events through constructing and/or deconstructing of fencing, barricades, chairs and stages, as well as “set-up” and “tear-down” tasks. Duties may include the cleaning of buildings and public restrooms, and moving office furniture.

    Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling - set-up/tear-down events, trash/debris removal, digging/shoveling, trenching, concrete work, planting, landscaping, etc.

    Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling/Reaching/Handling - Up to 50lbs - work aids, equipment, tools, materials, set-up/tear-down events, trash/debris removal, concrete work, raking, mulching, digging/shoveling, trenching planting, landscaping, etc.

    Standing - Concrete/asphalt work, trash/debris removal, "flagging" traffic, setting up/tear down work areas, digging/shoveling, trenching, planting, etc.

    Talking - Communication with co-workers, supervisor, customers, etc.

    Vision - driving, equipment, power tools, etc.

    Walking - to and from shop, to and from buildings, at worksites, trash/debris removal, mowing, edging, concrete/asphalt work, uneven terrain, etc.

    Heavy equipment; hand-held power tools and equipment (gas & electric); mowers; tractors; hard hat; safety and/or protective clothing (e.g., hardhat, goggles, gloves, ear, etc.); steel-toed or composite-toed safety boots/shoes; etc.

    Environment

    Duties are performed primarily within an outdoor environment or setting. Possible exposure to electrical & chemical hazards, water, vibration, loud noise, inclement weather, and dust, allergens, mold, inclement weather/extreme temperatures, etc.

    Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    Required knowledge and experience is normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School diploma or GED, and one (1) to three (3) years work related experience in landscape, grounds maintenance, or related field is required.

    Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.

    Must be able to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees and officials, and the general public.

    Ability to take and follow oral instructions.

    Ability to read and understand instructions and product directions.

    Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast-paced work environment.

    Ability to work during weekends and night-time events and hours of operations.

    Skilled in operating ride and push mowers, and hand-held and/or power tools.

    Must possess a valid Class C driver license.

    Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.
