The City of La Crosse is seeking to hire a full-time Engineering Technician to become an essential member of the Engineering team. The Engineering Department is responsible for designing, installing, and managing various infrastructure throughout the City of La Crosse. The individual in this position will work with a dedicated team of employees whose actions improve the lives of the citizens of La Crosse daily.
The purpose of this position is to perform surveying, construction inspection, drafting and design for public works projects. Incumbent will focus on preparing construction plans, assisting with project site surveys, updating construction plans and maps, inspecting contractor work for compliance, measuring materials, preparing construction inspection reports, preparing project estimates, and collecting traffic study data. In addition, position may operate surveying instruments and reproduction machinery, conduct traffic equipment testing, assist in locating utility records, deliver project objection notices, and assist with sidewalk snow removal compliance. The work is performed under the direction of the Deputy Director of Engineering & Public Works. Starting wage for this non-exempt position ranges between $20.56 - $23.55 per hour depending on qualifications (75hrs bi-weekly), with potential to earn up to $26.97 per hour through career advancement.
Requirements: Vocational/technical diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related area with CAD training; two years surveying, drafting, and engineering assistance experience; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. A valid driver’s license required.
