Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, or be in the process of obtaining it, to be eligible for part time guard positions with the City of Lakewood. LIFEGUARD
The lifeguard is responsible for the lives and safety of all patrons while on duty. Lifeguards must exhibit enthusiasm and dedication to their work.
Essential Functions:
HEAD LIFEGUARD
In addition to functioning as a lifeguard, the variable head guard is responsible for the on-site supervision of the entire operation of the aquatic facility when the Pool Manager is not present. This includes maintenance, staff relations, public contact, shift reports, and pool chemical balance.

SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTOR
Being a swim lesson instructor is an exciting, dynamic, fun and rewarding work experience that helps develop many of the skill sets and leadership qualities desired by employers today. Instructors must be able to instruct people in the proper methods of swimming and safety skills. The instructor should show a genuine interest in all students and enthusiasm in their teaching.
Essential Functions:
All Lakewood employees are expected to work and complete all tasks in a safe manner consistent with training, standard operating procedures, City or Department policies, and common sense. Working in a safe manner includes the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and complying with all City and/or Department safety rules. Horseplay on-the-job is strictly forbidden. The failure to work in a safe manner, use PPE, follow standard operating procedure or comply with a safety rule will result adverse employment consequences ranging from verbal discipline to termination from employment, including any applicable reduction in benefits under the Colorado Workers’ Compensation Act. Employees are also expected to encourage safe work practices by all co-employees, and to report any unsafe work practices immediately to a supervisor.

- Responsible for the safety of all patrons in the entire pool area.
- Must always be at assigned station or in assigned guard stand except when attending to a rescue or accident.
- Know and enforce all pool rules and regulations of the City of Lakewood in a FIRM, but POLITE manner.
- Maintain safety, discipline, and constant surveillance in and around the pool area and locker rooms.
- Know procedures for first aid and emergencies, including necessary paperwork and administer first aid when appropriate.
- Ensure all rescue equipment is in working order prior to the opening of the pool and pool area.
- Maintain personal swimming fitness.
- Employ personal protection from sunburn or other health hazards associated with job responsibilities.
- Maintain easy access of rescue equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Operates and maintains the pool and equipment.
- Ensures the cleanliness of the pool, locker rooms, staff areas, and all areas with the pool facility.
- Supervises and directs the work efforts of lifeguards, instructors and outdoor pool cashiers.
- Ensures all City policies, pool rules and regulations regarding the operation of the pool are adhered to and enforced by the staff.
- Performs as a lifeguard.
- Assists the Pool Manager in implementing staff patterns.
- Assists the Pool Manager to ensure smooth operation of all pools during the summer season and the indoor pools year around.
- Instructs a variety of American Red Cross Learn to Swim classes.

- Provide a safe environment for students during class.
- Provide competent leadership while instructing classes.
- Completion and distribution of report cards.
- Completion of all applicable American Red Cross forms in a timely manner.
