Essential Functions:
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in early childhood education, child development, youth programming, or elementary education. Experience in youth development programs is desirable.
Training:
On date of application, must have at least nine (9) credits in Early Childhood Education, child development, elementary education, health & human services, or a field related to the essential functions, from an accredited college, or twenty (20) hours of coursework towards a Child Development Associate certification.
And, must complete either a Child Development Associate certificate (CDA) or an AA/AS degree in Early Childhood Education, child development, elementary education, health & human services, or a field related to the essential functions, within two (2) years from the date of hire.
License or Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and clean driving record on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
First Aid/CPR/AED certificate by date of hire, and maintenance thereafter
Completion of a department-approved set of courses from the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) within six (6) months of date of hire, and maintenance thereafter.
Special Requirements:
Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
Knowledge of:
Principles and best practices in early childhood education and/or youth development program planning.
Knowledge of early childhood education classroom principles and techniques.
Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment and software.
Principles and procedures of accurate and complete record keeping.
Techniques used in public relations and customer services practices.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and safety program guidelines and procedures for early childhood education facilities and activities.
Pertinent traffic laws and safe driving techniques with an understanding of all current state and local regulations.
Area roads and landmarks.
Basic first aid and CPR.
Skills in:
Leading the activities of others and assisting in the management of a classroom environment.
Safe operation of an assigned vehicle.
Maintaining records and reports.
Ability to:
Provide a safe and nurturing classroom environment for young children under the age of 5.
