Job Description
Leads and manages Library Department. Develops and maintains quality collections of library materials.
This position reports directly to the Director of Parks and Cultural Services.

- Recruits, selects, supervises, trains, appraises, counsels and terminates Library personnel. Develops Department goals and objectives and oversees their implementation.
- Develops quality collections of print and audio visual materials for adults and young adults by reading reviews ordering materials.
- Prepares, administers, and monitors Departmental budget.
- Performs preliminary research and prepares long and short term plans for future library needs and services.
- Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars with emphasis on library management and automation.
- Implements various City rules and regulations as they affect library staff and procedure.
- Promotes public relations within the staff and with the general public.
- Prepares statistical and other reports for Library Board, and Mayor and Council, the County HALS, and the State.
- Maintain positive and effective relationships, being a team player by practicing cooperation and support, first and foremost with the elected and administrative leadership of the city (inclusive of the Director of Parks and Cultural Services) followed by Library employees, stakeholder groups, and patrons.
- Continues professional development to remain current on trends, opportunities, and challenges for public libraries
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters degree or equivalent in Library/Information Science required.
- Five to seven years experience in Library Administration required.
- Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.

- Knowledge of library automation, current trends in library and information and information science, broad range of informational and recreational reading sources, and the wants and needs of the community.
- Skills in oral and written communications, public relations, budgeting procedures, organizing and developing staff, adapting to change, and planning for the future.
Ability to:
- Ability to work harmoniously with all ages and types of people, communicate clearly, planning and implementing a budget, and provide needed service to community.
