Under direction of Engineers, a Company Officer and/or Chief Officer, perform duties in response to fire, hazardous materials, technical rescue, extrication and rescue, aircraft rescue and firefighting, and emergency medical scenes providing basic life support and/or advanced life support; maintain Fire Department equipment and apparatus in a state of readiness, maintain buildings in a state of cleanliness; perform Engineer duties when needed.Performs fire suppression, EMS, ARFF, hazmat, rescue and extrication, and technical rescue operations as assigned or required; responds to fire and medical emergencies; extinguishes fires including structural, automotive, wildland, chemical, aircraft, marine and petroleum applying appropriate techniques, and extinguishing agents and basic life support.
Drives fire apparatus including engines, aerial trucks, rescue squads, wildland engines and ambulances to emergency scenes as assigned; place and operate equipment including pumping, hydraulic power tools and aerial devices, calculating water pressures, as well as operating all equipment on board ambulances and engines.
Performs emergency medical skills, initiates emergency care including assessment, triage, treatment, and transport. Performs skills within level of EMS certification which may include, but not limited to: IV, defibrillation, endotracheal intubation, medication administration, bleeding control, bandaging, splinting and stabilization, receiving and transporting patients.
Maintains, cleans and inspects Fire Department apparatus; check tires, batteries, fuel, oil and water levels, pumps, emergency lights, warning devices, related medical and fire equipment, and maintaining all appropriate service logs.
Assumes command and coordination of emergency fire and medical incidents until relieved by a senior member or officer, provides leadership and control at emergency incidents.
Assures safety of co-workers while on duty and during emergencies.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to fire suppression, medical emergencies and training as directed; participates in the development and completion of goals and objectives.
Participates in training drills and attends classes in various technical fire and EMS related activities, techniques and procedures; assists in the development and review of prefire plans; reads firefighting and EMS manuals, participates in OTEP programs and in-house training.
Maintains fire station by sweeping, mopping and cleaning walkways, floors, windows and rooms; performs minor building maintenance and repairs, including changing lights and cutting grass.
Conducts safety and emergency awareness presentations; conducts fire station tours and explains firefighting techniques, procedures, policies and safety precautions.
Performs as Acting Engineer as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Any combination equivalent to: High school diploma or G.E.D. ICS 100 & 200. Valid driver’s license; must maintain valid EMT or higher certification in Idaho and Washington.
