Job Description
Under general supervision, the Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) performs skilled labor involving in the operation and maintenance of complex heavy equipment, such as front-end loader, backhoe, roller, winch truck, bulldozer maintainer, scraper, grader, 35-ton dragline, etc. Employee works under direction from supervisor. On some jobs, routine reports are required. Decisions are made on a routine basis. The worker has little or no contact with the public and has no supervisory responsibilities. Employee must abide by all safety rules and regulations. Job Responsibilities
1. Position requires driving and operating heavy-duty equipment.
2. Performs minor and preventive maintenance on the equipment.
3. Maintains a record of the equipment operations.
4. Prepares daily task reports.
5. Assist other personnel in the department, whenever necessary, as assigned by supervisor.
6. Performs other job-related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Requirements - 1. Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Job requires a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience with backhoe, excavator or other off road related equipment.
3. Job requires a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher. If candidate lacks CDL, they must be able to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher within six (6) months of employment.
4. Job requires working knowledge of equipment operations.
5. Job requires working evenings, weekends, holidays and during hurricane or other emergencies, when needed.
6. Job requires you to be on stand-by (on call waiting to be engaged to work) when necessary. Physical Requirements
1. Work involves operating a piece of equipment normally from a sitting position part of the job. Job requires
physical labor and working outdoors with exposure to inclement weather, heat, noise, allergens, dust, fumes, etc.
2. Job requires lifting and carrying 30-60 lbs. on a frequent basis.
3. Job requires driving a vehicle and operating mechanical equipment wearing a hard hat and a safety vest on a
constant basis.
4. Additional job physical demands are available. Additional Information
1. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
2. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
3. Employee works outdoors and works some irregular hours or shifts, with hazards which may result in lost time.
4. Job includes on call 24-hour and stand-by work on a monthly basis.
