Department: Public Works and Utilities/ Sanitation/ Transfer Station
Supervisor: Transfer Station Supervisor
Supervises: None
Characteristics of the Class: Under general direction, serves as Administrative Assistant/Weigh Station Operator for the transfer station; assists in performing all administrative duties required in the daily operations of the transfer station; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Essential:
- Serves as Administrative Assistant and Weigh Station Operator for the transfer station.
- Collects dumping fees from general public and forwards to Supervisor.
- Maintains weight tickets and collection records.
- Maintains security at transfer station.
- Checks vehicles entering and leaving station.
- Directs vehicles to proper site tipping floor.
- Assists in daily operations of the transfer station.
- Responsible for housekeeping duties and lawn maintenance.
- Receives complaints and attends to their disposition or forwards to Supervisor.
- Prepares and maintains required records and reports.
- Pick up of supplies from outside sources as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by two years directly related work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of the state and federal laws and administrative regulations governing operation of transfer station and solid waste disposal.
- Thorough knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with the operation of a transfer station.
- Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping requirements.
Abilities:
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to prepare and maintain required records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, city, county and state officials and the general public.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Instructions: Instructions are somewhat general; many aspects of work are covered specifically, but must use some of own judgment.
Processes: Must occasionally consider different courses of action or deviate from standard operating procedures to get job done.
Review of Work: Work is reviewed through written reports and verbal presentations.
Analytical Requirements: Problems require analysis based on precedent.
Physical Requirements of the Job: Work is performed both indoors in an office and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions; intermittent standing, sitting, walking; lifting objects weighing more than 25 lbs; must be able to perform heavy labor under extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time as a requirement of the job.
Tools, Equipment and/or Vehicles Used: Electronic scales; normal office equipment (telephone, calculator, computer, etc.); lawn mower, weed eater, sprayers
Contacts: Frequent public and internal contacts requiring tact and diplomacy are requirements of the job.

Special Licensing Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
