What are the responsibilities and job description for the HEALTH PROJECT & PLANNING SPECIALIST (INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM LEAD) (CLASS CODE 5502) position at City of New Orleans?
The Injury Prevention Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing projects that increase safety and reduce morbidity and mortality from injuries. Target injury prevention focus areas include motor vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian crashes, drowning, falls, poisonings, unintentional firearm injuries, fires and burns. Within those priority areas, the Injury Prevention Specialist must analyze the current data to identify the frequency, patterns, and risk for injury in the community. Based on their analyses, the Specialist will advocate for legislative and enforcement strategies, educational/behavioral change strategies, and engineering and technology interventions to reduce injuries. This position will coordinate and collaborate with local health care agencies, state agencies, nonprofits, the media, and the general public to raise awareness about the causes of injuries and prevention strategies; and related duites as required.

NOTE: A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in public health, public administration, planning, social work, a social science or a closely related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for related experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
This is an original entrance examination.
- A Bachelor's Degree* from an accredited college or university in public health, social work, a social science or a closely related field.
- Four (4) years of professional experience developing and implementing community health or wellness programs. Professional experience is paid experience gained after the receipt of a Bachelor's Degree in a position that required a Bachelor's degree upon entrance. Civil Service reserves the right to determine what is considered to be professional experience.
