Nature of Work: This is skilled work in preparing surfaces for painting and matching, mixing, and applying paints to equipment, furniture, buildings, swimming pools, sports courts, and other structures and surfaces.
Education and Experience: (The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.)
High school graduation or its equivalent AND Two (2) years of experience in the painting trade on a variety of surfaces OR Completion of a recognized painters apprenticeship.
Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operators license at the time of appointment.
Pay Range: $21.10 with step increases to $26.02/Hour or /Annually

Examination Information: The multiple choice/written examination will be on January 3, 2022. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. passing score on the exam is 60%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score.
Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for Veteran’s preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from Veterans Administration dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by January 3, 2022.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks
* Knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools, and materials of the painters trade
* Knowledge of the properties and uses of paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, primers, paint removers, and other surface preparation and finish materials
* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the painting trade
* Skill in matching and mixing paints and varnishes and in applying them to various surfaces with brushes, rollers, or spray guns
* Ability to perform minor repairs in preparation for painting
* Ability to understand written or oral instructions
* Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the general public
* Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
* Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, push, and pull for eight (8) hours per day or more and to balance and lift for six (6) hours per day or more
* Ability to move objects weighing up to one-hundred (100) pounds up to 33% of the time, up to fifty (50) pounds 34 to 66% of the time, and up to twenty (20) pounds up to 100% of the time
Essential Functions: (Any one position may not perform all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this class.)
Detailed responsibilities:
* Inspects surfaces to be painted and estimates and orders needed materials
* Prepares surfaces by sanding, sandblasting, stripping, masking, scraping, and re-glazing
* Patches drywall, ceilings, and floors
* Erects and disassembles scaffolding
* Applies paint to interior and exterior building surfaces, metal equipment, swimming pools, sports courts, and other playground equipment
* Resurfaces gymnasium floors, painting in lines, stripes, and other insignia
* Lays out and stripes parking lots
* Applies stain and varnish to furniture and other wood surfaces
* Cleans and maintains brushes, spray guns, and other equipment
* Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor
* Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification
