The purpose of this job within the organization is to supervise assigned division supervisors and subordinates in the operation and maintenance of city parks, streets, sanitation, fleet and vehicle maintenance and water, sewer, storm drainage and reclaimed water facilities systems.
This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job/class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary.
Essential Functions:
Supervises, administers, and provides daily managerial oversight of assigned divisions including storm water, wastewater collection, water distribution, streets, fleet and vehicle maintenance, parks, sanitation and related facilities to achieve goals within available resources.
Selects, hires, and trains of subordinates; plans, supervises, and evaluates the work of all assigned personnel; provides leadership in technical training and career development discussions.
Provides leadership and direction in the development and implementation of short and long-range plans including the department budget and control of expenditures.
Prepare, evaluate, and recommend bids for their appropriate department to the Deputy Director of Public Works.
Collaborates with consultants and contractors in the construction of projects related to the City's Capital Improvements Plan.
Plans, prepares, implements, and administers departmental regulatory compliance with local, state and federal agencies to ensure adherence to established permits and rules.
Additional Duties:
Implements programs and activity changes to ensure effectiveness and productivity in service to the general public.
Provides reports to Director of Public Works, and other governmental agencies as needed.
On-call rotation for weekends and events.
Performs related work as assigned.

The impact of errors is moderately serious – affects work unit and may affect other units or citizens.
Physical Demands:
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
Equipment Usage:
Leads or handles machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.
Unavoidable Hazards:
Involves routine and frequent exposureto vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors.
Safety of Others:
Responsible to ensure the safety of the assigned workplace and assigned personnel in compliance with mandated federal and state governmental regulations, and to assure, to the extent practical, voluntary compliance with other federal safety regulations.
