Ideal Candidate for Financial Analyst:
- Strong experience in supporting an annual budget process, comfortable making financial recommendations to help in decision-making, and monitoring revenues/expenditures/grants;
- Ability to interpret financial data, analyze trends and forecast, notice any discrepancies in the data, and to make recommendations to management;
- Ability to prepare clear, concise and highly accurate reports and other written materials;
- Self-starter, problem solver who embraces challenges, and strong attention to detail;
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite tools (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) to facilitate multiple components of the budgetary process; Advanced proficiency level of Excel is required;
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all City Departments/Divisions;
- Be a team player who will enjoy working with all faucets of the organization;

- Gathers and analyzes budgetary, financial, statistical and other data from various sources and makes recommendations on the basis of conclusions derived from analyses.
- Conducts research for assigned department/program; attends and may conduct various staff and/or informational meetings or workshops.

Education: A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional level experience in finance, budgeting, or accounting.
License/Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license.
Other Requirements: Physically and mentally capable of performing the functions of the job, including but not limited to those summarized in Typical Tasks.
Knowledge of:
Principles, practices and methods of accounting, finance, and budget development and implementation; computer software systems related to finance, accounting, and budgeting systems; modern office procedures, methods, and procedures; personal computer word processing/spreadsheet software in a Windows environment; pertinent governmental accounting standards and regulations.
Ability to:
Analyze operational and organizational financial problems, apply the principles and practices of public administration as assigned; independently analyze financial/statistical data and records; prepare accurate accounting/finance/budget reports and summaries; reconcile accounts and reconstruct a moderately complex accounting records trail in order to locate and correct errors or reasons for imbalance; perform mathematical computations accurately; operate computer based accounting systems; use independent judgment; analyze and interpret various accounting systems; analyze problems, identify solutions, and make recommendations; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; identify and interpret technical and numerical information, technical policy/procedures, and governmental accounting regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
