SUMMARY: The paralegal will provide assistance and support for the City Attorney and Deputy City Attorney in the management of legal matters involving the City of Roswell. The position is responsible for monitoring criminal and civil litigation and pending claims, keeping track of court and other deadlines, drafting form pleadings and other legal instruments, researching legal questions and factual issues, and coordinating with City staff, contract and opposing counsel, insurance adjusters, witnesses and victims regarding pending legal matters.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepares, assembles, and/or manages administrative and litigation reports or other documents on legal matters of
moderate to significant complexity.
- Organizes the processing of complex legal matters based on established departmental processes.
- Assists in the maintenance of case and legal filing systems.
- Communicates on such legal matters of routine complexity with internal and/or external persons or organizations.
- Locates and interviews witnesses, and coordinates and schedules court appearances, trials, depositions, and
meetings.
- Drafts and or edits documents for review and approval.
- Serves, as needed, as point of contact for legal matters or cases.
- Conducts standard research and analysis of facts and applicable laws and cases.
- Utilizes on-line research services and other computer-based and written resources.
- Performs analysis of moderate complexity on legal or factual issues assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, plus successful completion of either an American Bar Association approved paralegal training program, or a paralegal training program conducted by an accredited college or university, or at least five (5) years working at a law office under the direction of an attorney may substitute for the required certification.
Knowledge Of:
- City and Department policies and procedures.
- Federal, State, and City regulations.
- Knowledge of relevant court procedures and rules of evidence.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver’s license issued by the State of New Mexico, plus Paralegal Certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a standard office environment.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records, and other records deemed necessary.
Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility.
CONDITIONS OF CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT:
Incumbents and candidates must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City’s insurance carrier
