IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The Public Service Aide position will support the Civic Engagement Unit staffing with the underlying goal of empowering Sacramento’s youth citywide with knowledge, resources and opportunities to advocate and engage within their communities. A focus of this Unit is educating youth and providing them with the tools to navigate local government and become civically engaged. Within the Civic Engagement Unit, the Sacramento Youth Commission (SYC) and Summer @ City Hall (S@CH) program are umbrellaed with each focusing on civic engagement and supporting youth community members in finding their voice within.
The Public Service Aide position will support the staffing team with the development and presenting of training modules that are strengthened with the principles of the Citywide Youth Development Plan. The training modules provide youth the opportunity to learn more about governmental processes and civic engagement.
The Public Service Aide’s role will also include serving as a mentor to other youth selected to be part of the Summer @ City Hall program along with lead-up activities related to the program. The position requires individuals to be available mornings and afternoons, Monday-Friday, throughout the summer.
Under immediate supervision, to work in a training capacity performing various types of work in City departments to enable employees to prepare themselves more adequately for permanent employment.Youth Services:
- Conducts and guides participants in various recreation leagues, tournaments, and contests, and assists in the instruction of arts and crafts programs.
- Participates in in-service training programs.
- Responsible for proper use of playground and athletic equipment.
Aquatic Services:
- Assists in office work pertaining to the checking of clothes.
- Maintains locker room facilities in neat, clean, and orderly condition.
Zoo Services:
- Cares for the birds and animals at the Sacramento Zoo and performs related cleaning and maintenance work necessary for the health and well-being of animals.
Golf Services:
- Works on ground care and maintenance of the City golf courses. Assignments include watering, weeding, and fertilizing greens, tees, and fairways.
Park Services:
- Plants, waters, fertilizes, and cares for trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass in park and recreation areas.
Clerical Services:
- To perform typing, filing, and other office tasks related to clerical duties.Minimum Age:
16 years of age at time of appointment.

3. Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail) - All applications received by the final filing deadline will be forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. 4. Hiring Interview: Those candidates determined to be the MOST QUALIFIED will be invited to participate in an interview process coordinated by the hiring department. There will be no eligible list established, as positions will be seasonal and/or part-time. A hiring interview is not guaranteed.
5. Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass LiveScan/fingerprinting and provide proof of receiving a complete COVID-19 vaccination. If applicable, candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
