Seattle Public Utilities’ (SPU) Engineering Record Center (Vault) has an opportunity for a Records Management Assistant (Engineering Aide) to assist with engineering records management. This position will organize and relocate fragile, physical records in storage at multiple sites. The Records Management Assistant will also manage metadata, scan, georeference, process, and publish engineering records to the Vault’s document management system, as well as provide customer service functions within the Engineering Records Center. This position will report to the Engineering Records Center Supervisor.

- Research and interpret engineering documents and records such as maps, surveys, drawings and traffic data.
- Process, maintain, and update engineering and permit data and records used for a variety of engineering and construction activities.
- Scan fragile records, and indexes. Interpret, georeference, and apply metadata to digital versions of engineering records.
- Catalog and organize collections of digital and hardcopy historical engineering records;
- Provide customer support to researchers using a wide variety of municipal and technical information resources.
- Perform elementary drafting in the preparation and revision of architectural, civil, electrical or mechanical engineering sketches, charts, diagrams, graphs, layouts, maps, detail drawings, plans, profiles, sections and records.
- Provide research assistance to land surveyors, engineers, architects, and members of the public in person, via email, and over the phone.
Experience:
Satisfactory completion of high school mathematics, including trigonometry (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provide an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
The Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Two or Four-year degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Technology, or any postsecondary focus in Information Science or Library/Archival Studies.
- Experience in an engineering office or similar archive.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Excel, and/or Python.
- Digital asset management, metadata management.
- Archival description and preservation techniques.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment (teleworking may be possible in the future).
- Some work is performed in the field including exposure to all types of weather, traffic or hazardous/toxic substances.
- May be required to lift over 50 pounds.
- May be required to stand, walk or bend for extended periods of time.

The full salary range for this position is $29.73 - $34.60 hourly.
