This Maintenance Worker position is part of a career development track, which includes the Maintenance Worker I, II and III levels, depending on qualifications. Maintenance Workers perform routine labor functions in the general maintenance and construction of public infrastructure and facilities, and can be placed on any of three crews (Right of Way, Pavement, or Stormwater).

Position Responsibilities
Construction and Repair. Performs routine duties in the construction and repair of streets, public walkways and roadways. Performs stormwater drainage construction and maintenance. Sets up work zone traffic signs and other signs as required.
Maintenance. Picks up debris and miscellaneous objects on streets and at work sites. Mows grass with hand mower, tractor mower or riding mower along public thoroughfares.
Equipment Operation and Equipment Maintenance. Operates manual or small powered equipment for street maintenance, drainage, or right-of-way mowing. Operates one ton and 2 ½ ton truck to haul materials and equipment to and from job site. Loads and unloads materials and equipment from trucks. Performs routine preventative maintenance and other minor maintenance work on department vehicles and motorized equipment.
Emergency Operations. Performs snow removal and ice control operations and other emergency operations (e.g., natural disasters). Removes storm damaged trees, landscaping or structures.
Administration/Project Supervision. Maintains records, reports, and other documents as necessary.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications for a Maintenance Worker I:
- High School Diploma or the equivalent.
- Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsements (or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment) with acceptable driving record.
- Previous construction and/or maintenance experience a plus.
Hiring salary range for a Maintenance Worker I begins at $19.75 per hour (DOQ).
Minimum Qualifications for a Maintenance Worker II:
- High School Diploma or the equivalent.
- Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
- A minimum of 4 years work experience in construction and/or maintenance.
Hiring salary range for a Maintenance Worker II begins at $21.60 per hour (DOQ).
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities identified in this job posting will also be considered.
Work Schedule
This position generally works eight hour days, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). This position is required to respond and participate in snow removal, ice control and other emergency operations during off-duty times. Emergency situations can occur anytime, day or night, seven days per week including holidays. Typical emergency shifts are twelve hours on and a minimum of eight hours off between shifts. Some of our crews operate on an alternate work schedule during the summer months, which includes four, 10-hour days per week.
