The IT Administrator provides a full range of network support services, including managed services provider administration, to ensure that City information systems are functional, efficient, and up-to-date.

- Performs activities, operations and oversight required to maintain the City IT systems and services that City employees and customers rely on.
- Participates in long-range planning, working in collaboration with management and managed service provider to develop strategic plans supporting technology systems and services.
- Monitors and coordinates managed service provider Help Desk tickets, escalating tickets when needed and assisting by working tickets to ensure timely issue resolution.
- Purchases, documents and administers IT service and software renewals.
- With our managed services provider, ensure the quality of the the design, construction, and management of the security infrastructure of information technology systems.
- Ensures staff has proper resources to aid in the use of various computer and technology applications. Provide hardware, software, and product training to staff as needed.
- Purchases, configures, and administers wireless devices in the City’s Verizon accounts, including the enrollment and management of these devices in Microsoft Intune MEM.
- Verifies backup systems are working effectively and efficiently.
- Administers and maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access rights in collaboration with our managed services provider.
- Assists the managed services provider in the installation, configuration, maintenance and support of servers and security equipment.
- Assists the managed services provider in configuration and maintenance of cabling and rack organization in City facilities.
- Stays current with new technologies, trends, and regulations. Ensures system effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains current desk procedures and tasks to explain position responsibilities.
- Purchases, configures, documents, and administers equipment, licensing, associated supplies and materials.
- In coordination with City SCADA vendor and Public Works Department, assists in maintaining and supporting SCADA software, nodes, server, and network configurations.
- Assists in identifying, evaluating and implementing new hardware and software solutions.
- Recommends process improvement procedures, tasks, workflows, and systems.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- At times will be required to work outside normal business hours (Tuesday evenings) and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of this position. Flexibility in scheduling is possible.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in computer science or related field is required. One year of experience in network/IT support or administration or related area for an organization of comparable size is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to work courteously and effectively with City staff, the managed service provider and other organizations. Ability to prepare clearly written reports and documents and make effective oral presentations of staff recommendations and reports.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts for submittal of the annual departmental budgets. Ability to research and apply for financial assistance for multiple projects through grants and loans.
REASONING ABILITY:

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Have, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Washington State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Configure and troubleshoot network and telecommunications hardware and software, including wireless networks. Skills in cyber security vulnerabilities, mitigation strategies, network security, and how to apply security controls, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, web application firewalls and VPNs. Principles and practices public records requests, including public computer workstations, technical services. Experience training and supporting client users in a production environment. Ability to collaborate and present ideas to personnel at all levels within the organization. Strong communication skills; both oral and written. Able to make recommendations that help solve technology use issues in the most efficient and effective manner. Have the ability to prioritize daily tasks, prepare schedules, and monitor/adjust task sequences.

Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Shelton to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. Will occasionally be required to work some evenings and weekends.
