The City of Show Low announces recruitment for the position of Library Services Manager.  Show Low is the hub of the beautiful, Ponderosa Pine forested White Mountain recreation wonderland in Northeastern Arizona, with a year-round population of 12,000 that doubles in the summer.  Show Low has something for everyone from camping, hiking, fishing, and hunting to skiing, cultural opportunities, and more.

Starting Salary:      $65,000 – 78,646.98 annually plus a generous benefits package

Positions Show Low Public Library as a major component of public education for all ages.
Fully embraces the library’s educational mission, effectively communicating the library’s curriculum, which comprises three pillars: self-directed education, research assistance and instruction, and instructive and enlightening experiences.
Plans, organizes and manages the activities and staff of the library division. Develops, implements, enforces and monitors the policies, procedures and regulations of the library.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Community Services Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Exercises direct and general supervision over all members of the library staff, including volunteers.Manages the City library staff and activities to meet community requirements; Provides leadership to ensure that library services are provided in alignment with the City's strategic objectives and State and Federal laws; Develops, implements, and monitors goals and objectives for the library services; Evaluates the effectiveness of services.

Plans, organizes, implements, and oversees library operations, public programs and capital projects; Makes recommendations that ensure the level of services keeps pace with customer needs.

Plans and manages resource allocations; Ensures efficient operations and cost-effective practices; Manages the collection, analysis and reporting of operational, budget and financial data; Analyzes future needs and forecasts resource requirements.

Directs the development and administration of budgets, policies, projects and programs to effectively and efficiently deliver library services to the City residents.

Monitors trends in library practices and recommends operational and policy improvements.

Supervises and trains staff and evaluates performance; Monitors operations to identify and resolve problems and priorities; Reviews the work of assigned staff to ensure the work quality, and the efficient and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Serves as advisor to the Friends of the Library, Community Services Director and City Manager on library programs and issues.

Interprets and explains library policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; Provides information and interpretation concerning library services, policies and procedures; Resolves citizen complaints or problems with library services, policies or procedures; Monitors library practices to recommend changes in the automated systems, policies and procedures.

Coordinates records retention for assigned functional areas and is familiar with all departmental requirements based on State of Arizona records and City’s records management retention guidelines.

Provides leadership and training to other employees to increase their skills in assigned functional areas, actively works towards understanding all functional areas in the division.

Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards; Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed.

Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service; Leads and participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Composes, inputs, and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.

Assists in checking library materials in and out, processes overdue charges and fines.

Actively participates in the training and ongoing education of library staff and other members of City staff as required.Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in library science, liberal arts, finance, or public administration (Master’s preferred); and
  2. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible library operations experience; or
  3. Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library systems and programs; Thorough knowledge of library collection classification and selection tools and techniques; Working knowledge of equipment and facilities required in a comprehensive library system; Working knowledge of the principles and practices of office management work organization.
  2. Skill in entering, adjusting, and retrieving data using a computer, automated library systems, and databases.
  3. The ability to plan, organize, and direct activities related to library operations and statistical reporting and budgeting; ability to exercise good judgment; Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with customers, clients, and the public in face-to-face, one-on-one settings, in group settings, and over a telephone; Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  1. Valid Arizona Driver License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
  2. Incumbents in this position are frequently required to work varied shifts including evenings and weekends.

Personal computer, including Microsoft Office (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook), Integrated Library Systems, printers, audio-visual equipment, phones, general office equipment, and automobiles.
