This is advanced professional and supervisory library work in assisting with coordinating the youth services division of the St. Petersburg municipal libraries. Work includes responsibility for complicated, technical library tasks and supervision and support of professional and nonprofessional personnel engaged in customer service, lending of materials, program delivery, selection, ordering and processing of physical and online collection materials and community engagement, with emphasis on adult, family, youth and/or community literacy initiatives. Work involves assisting with developing and executing a strategic plan for the assigned division, creating and updating procedural workflows, recommending policies to support the library system’s mission and vision, supervising routine and daily tasks of professional and nonprofessional staff, troubleshooting customer and staff issues and serving as a coordinator-in-charge on a rotating basis, involving a balance of daily tasks and responsibilities with oversight of the President Barack Obama Main Library (PBOML), located within the central St. Petersburg district and serving a diverse population within the greater city limits, including unincorporated areas of the city. PBOML is the central nerve center of the library system, including the Acquisition Services, Adult Services, Borrower Services, Facilities Services, Management Services, Support Services and Youth Services Divisions, which all serve the six community libraries. The library also supports the system’s Teen Advisory Board, a computing and instruction lab supporting small business enterprise, workforce readiness, e-government, among other specialized services. There are also a host of partnerships with government and non-profit organizations based at PBOML, with some services extending to other St. Petersburg community libraries. This position requires participation in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal, and discipline of assigned employees. Work requires continuous, effective public contact; the exercise of considerable patience, tact, and diplomacy; considerable independent judgment, flexibility, and initiative in scheduling, assigning, and coordinating work with that of other units within the system; and participation in the Library’s evening and weekend rotation schedule.
