Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our Library Department as a Library Assistant. The purpose of this position is to provide customer service to library patrons by responding to inquiries and requests, assisting with technical needs, and providing information on library procedures and services. Trains and advises patrons in the use of technology; sort materials based on user requests and popular book lists. Must be able to open and close library facilities. Other duties include: Prepare and make cash deposits; Participate in the budget process; Track expenses and make sure invoices are coded and sent correctly; Prepare operational reports; Determine statistics and reporting method; Keeps records; facilitate file storage and destruction through the City Clerk's office; Participate in daily library operations, including checking in and out of library materials, issuance of library cards, item shelving, new material processes; Remove/repair damaged materials; Create and implement programming and special events; Assist in the acquisition of materials and the development of collections; Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Library Science or a related field and 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Fluent speaking Spanish highly desired. Valid Arizona driver's license required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and arms, stand, bend, kneel or stoop sometimes for long periods of time. Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
