Introduction

\r\n�\r\nThe� City of Tucson's Business Services�Department is seeking a Tax Auditor with a strong accounting background and analytical skills to work in the Tax Audit Section to successfully analyze and reconcile financial data, prepare spreadsheets and reports summarizing financial and audit information.� The selected incumbent will be responsible for effectively communicating transaction privilege (sales) tax information and audit requirements to others within the organization, to city business owners, and to community members who contract with the City of Tucson and the State of Arizona. The successful candidate would thrive in an innovative work environment contributing to constant improvement efforts of the work unit and the City as a whole.\r\n

General Description

The Tax Auditor is required to work Monday thru Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.� Occasionally, the Tax Auditor must�drive their personal vehicle to meet with taxpayers.� Those visits may result in the Tax Auditor retrieving files or boxes of the taxpayer's receipts/paperwork.\r\n\r\nTax Auditors must be able to lift files, materials, and/or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe City of Tucson will reimburse for personal vehicle usage.\r\n\r\n

Essential Functions

Conducts City/State business sales tax audits to determine compliance with State and City tax laws.\r\n\r\nAudits financial records of local businesses to calculate sales and use tax liability.\r\n\r\nOrganizes income information into appropriate schedules and reconciles differences between audited and reported income for computing liability and determining appropriate assessment or refund.\r\n\r\nCommunicates with the public to discuss audit results with taxpayers.\r\n\r\nPrepares detailed audit reports for each audit; reports include findings, and detailed explanation of how results are compiled, computed and justified using Court cases, the Tucson City Tax Code Sections and Regulations, and the Arizona Revised Statues and Administrative Code.\r\n\r\nConducts multi-jurisdictional audits; requires coordinating audits and findings with the auditors from other jurisdictions, requires basic knowledge of tax code differences among other agencies.\r\n\r\nEvaluates taxpayers' systems to determine the reliability of accounting records and makes recommendations to taxpayers on improving record keeping to be in compliance.\r\n\r\nEducates citizens on the correct application of tax codes and reporting requirements for their business activity.\r\n\r\nPrepares documents for issuing assessments.\r\n\r\nObtains current licensing information from taxpayers.\r\n\r\nEducates taxpayers on their right to appeal and responds to protests regarding issues involved in the appeal process.\r\n\r\nProvides guidance and educates taxpayers on the City and State Tax Codes that relate to their business.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor’s Degree \r\nMinimum Experience Qualifications: 2 years of professional accounting and general auditing experience that includes the use of finance or accounting software\r\nValid drivers license\r\nRelevant experience in lieu of education will be considered.��Must be experience which provides the ability to successfully perform the essential functions�of this position.\r\n

Special Job Requirements

Tax auditors must have their own vehicles for field work�and will be reimbursed for mileage. \r\n

Preferred Qualifications

College degree field of study: Accounting/Finance/Business Administration/Economics or related field \r\n

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile, their resume review and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in the Oral Board Interview.�\r\n\r\n Virtual Oral Board Interviews will be held: May 23, 2023 via Microsoft Teams.�\r\n\r\n\r\n Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List.� An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:������ \r\n \r\n 20% of your rating for education and work experience \r\n 80% of your oral board interview��� \r\n \r\n This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.\r\n Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List.� If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, and you get invited to the Oral Board interviews, you must email your documentation to Curtis.Rohlfs@tucsonaz.gov.�The DD 214 must be a copy that indicates characterization of service.�� \r\n If you are in need of Americans with Disabilities Act-related accommodation during the testing process, please email Erin.Gallego@tucsonaz.gov at least 48 hours prior to the evaluation.\r\n

Creditable service does not accrue during any reemployment period.\r\n
