Please click here for Job Flyer (PDF).Perform PM inspections and vehicle repairs on the following equipment: automobiles, pick-up trucks, one-ton dump trucks, medium and heavy duty dump trucks, refuse packers, container hook trucks, sewer cleaning and catch basin cleaning trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, wheel loaders, light pole crane trucks, trenchers, directional boring machine, aerial bucket trucks, stump grinders, brush chippers, skid steers, horizontal drill truck, trailer mounted engine driven air compressors, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, blowers, chain saws, roto tillers, edgers, sprayers, small diesel tractors, diesel utility tractors, concrete grinders, generators, trailer mounted trash pumps, 2 and 4 cycle snow blowers, salt spreaders and snow plows.Perform the following types of repairs (diagnose/repair/replace) : Gas and diesel engines, transmissions, drive shafts, differentials and drive axles. Hydraulic and air brake systems. Steering system parts, power steering, steering linkage and steering alignment. Suspension systems coil spring, strut and leaf spring, air spring parts and components. Repair electrical DC 12 and 24 volt lights. Create electrical wiring and circuits to update or modify equipment. Repair closed loop electrical systems in gas and diesel engine control computers and transmissions. Repair vehicle heating, ventilation, air conditioning, thermostats, fan motors, switches, vent cables and controls. Repair vehicle air conditioning components, compressors, condensers, evaporators, pressure switches, hoses and recharge A/C system.

- Associate's Degree (or equivalent) in Diesel or Automotive Repair and Powertrain Servicing, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of late model trucks and heavy diesel motorized road equipment,
- or four (4) years of recent paid work experience in the repair of late model trucks and heavy diesel motorized road equipment and (4) four years of recent paid work experience broad enough to clearly indicate the required knowledge and experience/background necessary to perform the type of work as listed under "Example of Duties".
- Completion of a diesel automotive apprenticeship is preferred.
Competent in using computers and basic software knowledge including, but not limited to, Windows and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook), diagnostic and related software, mobile devices such as an iPad, tablet, or smartphone.
License and Certificates
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's License and acceptable driving record per City policy.
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License (Class B, C, with air brakes) and a Tanker Endorsement within six (6) months of appointment. Test material and on-the-job training provided.
- Forklift certified within six (6) months of appointment; training and certification provided by the City.
- Possess the ability to drive all pieces of City equipment and vehicles. On-the-job training provided by the City.
- AC certified within six (6) months of appointment. Training assistance provided by the City.
- Certification as a ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician in seven areas which can be obtained after hire. Study material provided and test cost reimbursed with a successful passing grade.
