Plan Reviewer

Under general supervision, the Plan Reviewer receives applications, reviews plans, and provides information to applicants, contractors and staff to check for compliance with national and local safety standards, codes, laws, and ordinances.?

• Reviews applications and plans submitted and issues permits for commercial and residential projects including new construction and remodeling for compliance with all applicable codes.
• Contacts building owners, design professionals, contractors, and engineers to discuss deficiencies and to provide information, direction, and assistance regarding appropriate corrective action to take to eliminate deficiency and require compliance.
• Processes forms, applications, and other documents by reviewing forms for completeness, verifying information, performing necessary calculations, coding and entering data into the computer system.
• Receives and responds to complaints by disseminating information requiring discretionary judgment and thorough knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, activities, etc. or referring issues and concerns to the appropriate party for resolution.
• Routes applications to required departments and agencies for approval and communicates concerns and questions between applicants as may be necessary to issue permits, perform inspections and issue Certificates of Occupancy.
• Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
• Works safely, follows safe work practices, and identifies and reports unsafe work conditions.?
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

• Associate?s degree in architecture, construction engineering or a related field.
• Three years of related experience, including ability to read blueprints.
• Certification in plan review or inspection certification or ability to obtain certification within one year.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
• Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other City departments, vendors, contractors, external government agencies and organizations.
• Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
• Valid driver?s license.
