PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
Under the direction of the Director, this individual is responsible for supervising staff and managing the library when the Director is offsite and attending meetings. In addition, individual will assist the director with reports, grants, marketing, purchasing, and collection development.

This position differs from the Library Director in that incumbents of the latter position supervise this position and performs more responsible duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises library staff and circulation desk.
Helps ensure that the day-to-day operations of the library are being completed.
Attends meetings and makes presentations when the director is unavailable.
Addresses patron complaints and system problems when the director is offsite.
Creates purchase orders, travels offsite to make purchases, keeps inventory of items and works with the director on assets and warranty lists.
Assists the director with press releases, grant writing, marketing material, and other management level tasks and assignments.
Handles collection development and places orders of items using State and Federal funding.
Sends volunteer applications to the city and follows up with individuals on scheduling, training, assignments, and other tasks.
Helps patrons in the use of the online catalog, internet resources, computers, copier and fax machines, READS services and reading suggestions.
Answers questions in person, on the telephone, by email, app or other social media/electronic resources.
Performs clerical work such as making library cards, handling monetary transactions, and repairing/cleaning items.
Aides with creating and conducting programs for the library as well as promoting such programs.
Completes required training and stays familiar with new library and technology trends and maintains a level of technology competency.
Tasked with opening, closing, and straightening/cleaning the library when necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of library principles, practices, laws, methods and techniques; Knowledge of library materials, collections and the Dewey Decimal System; Skill in working with the public, both in person and by telephone; Skill in use of computer software including Microsoft Office; Skill in use of standard office machines and equipment; Ability to perform routine library work and maintain routine records; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Ability to make basic arithmetic calculations; Ability to manage the operations of the circulation desks and personnel.
Physical Requirements: Ability to pass reasonable fitness and physical standards to safely perform work, if required, as determined by city physician; vision and hearing, normal or corrected sufficient to read, write, distinguish colors, and safely operate equipment used in work; able to lift and carry about 25 pounds, though greater weights may, at times be lifted, carried and/or placed; dexterity and fitness to grasp, bend, stoop, walk, and otherwise perform physical functions of the assignment.
Work Environment: Work environment is generally agreeable with good working conditions but may be slightly dirty or involve exposure to some other slightly disagreeable elements. The work environment demands minimal confinement with no protective equipment required. The noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Training and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in management, liberal arts, or related field is required. Three years of library work experience is preferred.
Necessary Special Conditions: A valid Tennessee Driver’s License is required.

Pay: $43,118.40 - $51,251.20 per year
