JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK:
This position helps with general parks and recreation seasonal operations and performs a full range of duties relating to the Parks and Recreation Department.
Primary role will be to either (1) help maintain park grounds and facilities, and/or (2) enforce rules of the Splashpad. Additionally, all seasonal staff help provide support for events, programs and park rental operations.
Position can be tailored to area of interest and operational needs.

**Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.
IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ensure use of proper safety equipment, clothing, and procedures by self and team members.
Represent the City in a positive, efficient manner by exercising good judgement in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Provide exceptional customer service. Respond to inquiries from patrons and others, and refer, when necessary to the appropriate staff.
Report any malfunction of equipment, hazards, or other problems to supervisor.
Periodically test water and check chemical levels throughout Splashpad shifts. Maintain appropriate records.
Maintain knowledge of Splashpad and park rules.
Participate in organized and on the job training.
Cooperatively work with other staff to ensure a professional and enjoyable work environment.
Other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL EVENT DUTY:
Assistance with City-wide and department events and programs, including weekend and evening hours, is required. 2023 events are scheduled on the following dates:
May 26-28
June 10, 11
June 24, 25
July 3, 4
July 28, 29

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Must be available to work special event dates in addition to weekend and evening hours as assigned
Assigned hours: 24-40 per week. Minimum availability: beginning of May for training through Labor Day.
Minimum 16 years of age
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of and skill in:
Manual labor required. Manually shovel and move salt, dirt, mulch, snow, etc.; lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
Materials, methods, and tools used in performing job functions
Occupational hazards and safety precautions
Customer service and rule enforcement techniques
Microsoft Office and general computer processing
Conflict resolution and problem solving

Work independently and with minimal supervision
Perform manual labor tasks required to maintain Splashpad and Parks and Recreation facilities
Adhere to regulations, policies, and procedures required by the City of Whitehall, Franklin County Board of Health, and any and all other regulatory/ governing bodies

Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with youth, their parents, other park and city staff, community organization partners, and the general public
Understand, follow, and execute oral and written directions
Problem solve and use good judgement while preforming job-related tasks
Be able to work quickly under pressure and be willing and diplomatic in confronting users who are not following park rules
Manual dexterity in order to grasp, manipulate, install, or assemble objects
Sufficient mobility, stamina, flexibility, and balance to perform and repair operations that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and other physical exertions
Pass a criminal background check with no wants or warrants
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Hand tools, power tools, shovels, weed eaters, machinery, and various other tools, vehicles, and gators
Specialized personal protective equipment
Phone/ computer/ tablet/ two-way radio
Aquatic chemical controls and feeders
Other equipment/ tools as required by supervision
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee is subjected to indoor and outdoor environment conditions, extreme heat, direct/extreme sun, high humidity, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. When working at the Splashpad, employee is subject to frequent contact with wet surfaces, and exposure to pool chemicals. Work requires sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move, and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
