JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK:

Assists with the maintenance of the parks and ground areas, facilities and equipment by performing various highly complex skilled tasks. Operates as a part-time member of the Parks and Recreation team; however, may provide assistance to other departments as required and coordinated with the Director.

Works in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilities, equipment,

buildings and grounds performing highly complex tasks

Assists Crew Chief and/or Director in projects requiring advanced technical skills. Performs projects

and tasks related to the day-to-day operation of the Department

Identifies and implements solutions to problems in conjunction with other team members. Brings

concerns and issues impacting the parks, facilities and equipment to the attention of supervision

Performs related tasks as required.

Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required. .

6

Uses appropriate safety equipment and clothing

7

Removes debris and other safety hazards from streets, curps, storm drains, park areas and other adjacent public areas

 

 

 

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Handles equipment in a safe and appropriate manner; uses safety equipment when appropriate; determines
  • appropriate equipment and materials needed to complete complex tasks and projects.
  • Performs general parks labor and tasks to maintain parks and facilities.
  • Participates in snow removal, trash clean up, restoration work or any other duties assigned in an effort to assist in general upkeep of parks and facilities.
  • Assists vehicle driver by directing with hand signals or warning of approaching objects when backing or operating in narrow spaces
  • Utilizes mapping information to understand or plant efficient routes
  • Removes spilled refuse from collection site
  • Required to work special events.
  • Professionally interacts and communicates with the general public and internal and external customers.
  • Prepares and completes forms and paperwork as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in maintenance with experience in at least two of the following areas: Plumbing; Electrical Repair; Welding, Carpentry; Masonry; Construction.

OR

  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current and valid Ohio driver’s license.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • The principles, practices, equipment, tools and materials used in electric, plumbing and construction.
  • The necessary precautions involved in the use of tools and equipment.
  • Basic safety standards for work around construction environment.

 

Skill in some or all of the following areas:


  • Carpentry
  • Construction
  • Mechanical repair
  • Plumbing repair
  • Electrical repair
  • Masonry
  • Roofing
  • Drainage
  • Water Lines

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

• Work independently with general direction.

• Apply problem solving skills and perform critical thinking.

• Understand and follow specific oral instructions.

• Perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.

• Lift heavy articles requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently,

and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and repetitive motions.

• Read and write letters and numbers.

Working Conditions:

The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker will be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
