This position is responsible for managing all the aspects of a Police Community Resource Center. The goal is to increase the safety of his/her assigned neighborhood using citizen, governmental and community resources. A special emphasis is place on empowering the youth of the community.
- Act as a Community Liaison to mobilize the community and organize and monitor block watch/neighborhood association progress.
- Manage all aspects of the Community Resource Center including, holding meetings and other events to improve neighborhood participation, organizing special holiday community events and being available to make referrals to other governmental and community resources.
- Report neighborhood problems/concerns to USA Officers.
- Identify, report and follow-up on local codes violations.
- Involve the youth in positive self-image and character building projects giving them an alternative to just "hanging out" on corners.
- Foster/Develop "Broken Window Theory" by organizing community clean sweeps, reporting graffiti to Public Works employees, reporting broken/inoperative streetlights and working with property owners to improve lighting on private property.
- Other community centric projects.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to interact with the general public effectively in culturally diverse community.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate using the English language.
- Ability to organize and communicate ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationship with other employees.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to plan, organize and direct the programs and activities that are assigned.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate in Spanish is a plus.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in working with children and/or with community members.
A Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania issued Class C Operators License required.
All persons who become employed by the City on or after the effective date of this section (May 18, 2022) shall be or become residents of York County, or any County contiquous to York County (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Hartford, Baltimore, and Carroll Counties), within six months from the first date the employee achieves permanent employment status. Must pass a background check, Drug Test and the PA Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
Note: Child Abuse History Clearance must be dated within one year from the date of application and must show that "no record exists".
