CK Power is looking for a Design/Application Engineer at our St. Louis, MO location. The Design/Application Engineer will work directly with customers and diesel and/or natural gas engine manufacturers to evaluate new applications, confirm compliance with manufacturer guidelines, and make suggested improvements. Applications include power generation, marine, fluid pump, gas compression, heavy machinery, hybrid, and hydraulic applications. In addition, this position will involve working directly with other CK Power engineers and manufacturing teams to develop and release new products.
What You’ll Do:
- (75% computer work/ 15% hands-on/ 10% travel)
- Perform hands-on application review testing of engine products, collecting necessary data and ensuring compliance with engine manufacturer performance standards. Primarily Kubota, John Deere, Volvo & Ford.
- Provide application engineering support to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engine customers, including documentation of critical customer application information.
- Develop new product designs, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, schematics, and other technical information as part of the product development process.
- Establish specifications and criteria for purchased components to facilitate the procurement process, including review of periodic substitution and/or alternative sourcing requests.
- Provide support to the production and quality teams during the manufacturing and testing processes.
- Provide timely and effective customer technical support and process new application project requests.
- Identify root cause & corrective action(s) for design-related engine/product performance issues.
- Define product test requirements and support testing and validation activities.
What You’ll Need:
- B.S. or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering field.
- 2 years of previous engineering experience performing design, analysis, and testing work.
- Experience with Creo (preferred) or other 3D modeling software.
- Ability to read schematics and drawings.
- Demonstrated successful project management experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to work hands-on (independently and as part of the team) to discover and implement solutions.
- Willingness to travel domestically to OEM facilities and customer locations.
- Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
What Helps:
- A minimum of one year of experience working with engines or equipment design, engine performance development, or vehicle application interaction.
- Knowledge of and previous work experience with CAN vehicle network, J-1939 diagnostic standard, and engine and/or generator control applications.
- Working knowledge of power-train systems including engines and transmissions.
- Ability to use data acquisition and diagnostic tools to communicate with electronic engine controllers.
- Vehicle test experience and knowledge of off-highway vehicle applications.
- Customer support experience with customer interaction regarding products, parts, and services.
