Highway Foreman
Overview/Purpose of Position:
Clark County is accepting applications to fill a full-time Highway Foreman position reporting to the Neillsville location. Essential duties and responsibilities include providing work direction and training to a work crew of operators and skilled laborers. Supervisory work to coordinate the construction and maintenance of highways, bridges and culverts. Inspect highways for unsafe conditions and maintenance needs. Assist in facilities management to ensure facilities are maintained in proper working order and condition. Monitor and coordinate the usage of labor, materials and equipment on projects. Promote cost control measures to ensure efficient operations. Organize Highway Emergency Responses including highway closures for accidents, storm debris, flooding and extreme winter weather conditions. Supervise day to day operations to confirm required safety practices are being followed.
Requirements:
Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma and be eligible to work in the United States. An associate’s degree in a major pertinent to the position, or equivalent advanced training, is preferred. A minimum of four years of experience in highway construction, highway maintenance or project management is required; in addition to a minimum of two years’ experience directly supervising employees. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Applicant must have the ability to read and interpret technical documents pertaining to highway construction. Provide technical assistance to highway department work crews pertaining to highway and culvert projects. Applicant must be able to work overtime on short notice and be available for call-in work outside of normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Applicant must have the ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office. Applicant must be able to interact positively with fellow employees and the public.
Special Requirement:
Applicant is required to possess, and maintain, a valid Class A Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License with Manual Transmission, Air Brake and Tanker Endorsement. Pre-employment drug screening and participation in drug testing program is required. Applicant must be able to report to the Neillsville location within 30 minutes.
Benefits:
Starting pay range for this position is $30.83, wage is negotiable with advanced experience and qualifications. Scheduled wage step increases annually. Four day work week April through October. Overtime pay for all hours worked outside scheduled work day. Clark County offers a competitive benefit package including health insurance, Wisconsin Retirement System, personal time off, short and long term disability.
