Position Summary:
The IT Infrastructure Technician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of physical data and telephony infrastructure including cable plant, network electronics and VoIP devices. Also responsible for maintaining accurate records and inventory of the same.
Guidelines:
- Installs and maintains physical data and telephony network infrastructure
- Maintains inventory and usage records of all equipment
- Liaison to local CATV and POTS telephone providers
- Position requires occasional night and weekend hours in support of the University
General Purpose: The Data Infrastructure Technician serves to provide day-to-day moves, adds and changes to the data and telephony networks, installs new and maintains existing infrastructure.
Position Responsibilities:
- Installs, terminates and tests Cat3 and higher cable and components, multi and single mode fiber cable and components
- Installs cable supporting infrastructure such as conduit, raceway and ladder rack
- Installs and maintains analog telephony infrastructure
- Provides record keeping of equipment and infrastructure
- Installs, maintains and troubleshoots VoIP telephones
- Liaise with outside vendors to coordinate new product installations and repairs
- Other duties as assigned

Education:
Minimal Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary education (high school) or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of vocational education as electrician or telecommunications technician
Experience:
Minimal Experience:
- Installation and termination of Cat3 and Cat5e or higher infrastructure cabling
- Familiarity with basic data networking concepts
Preferred Experience:
- Installation and termination of multi and single mode fiber optic cabling
- Installation and configuration of edge-networking electronics including switches and wireless access points
- Familiarity with emergency telephone, auto-dialer and other pre-programmed telephone devices
