Background: Clean Crop Technologies, Inc. (www.cleancroptech.com) is seeking a Lab Assistant to join our team! Under the direction of the CTO, the assistant will be responsible for running the autoclave, helping prepare samples and recovering contaminants from food products, and other tasks designed to alleviate bottlenecks within the lab. This is an exciting opportunity to come in on the ground floor and help with hands-on work in a fast-paced environment. The selected individual will work in a team environment that requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:
- Work safely in a BSL1 laboratory environment.
- Routine lab maintenance tasks such as running the autoclave, washing beakers, checking the eyewash, etc.
- Assist with established and approved sample preparation and recovery wet lab protocols.
- Assist with preparing mixtures and perform a range of recoveries, including fluorometry, plate count, etc.
- Assist with experimental trials, including running the cold plasma prototype system and recording trial data.
- Record all data and results with accuracy and responsibility.
- Maintain equipment and the materials inventory.
- Learn media prep, plating, contact angle, and possibly PCR
- Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all time. Organize and store all chemicals, substances, fluids etc. and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment.
- Over time there will be more opportunities to learn more advanced things in the lab.
Qualifications:
- High School degree or equivalent GED required (minimum)
- Higher education in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related fields preferred.
- Relevant experience including lab benchwork, ideally analytical chemistry or microbiology, preferred.
- Able to use a pipette.
- Be diligent and attentive.
- Willingness to learn new things, and be able to communicate effectively.
- Innovative spirit and curiosity to improve protocol efficiency, safety, and speed.
- Attention to detail.
