Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read and write English and Spanish
- Ability to interpret Spanish to English and English to Spanish with accurate proficiency
- Ability to transcribe English to Spanish documents with accurate proficiency
- Ability to read, follow, format and interpret software and hardware manuals
- Ability to type on computer keyboard 35 wpm with accuracy, and the ability to read the monitor
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Mastery of English, in written and oral form
- Mastery of Spanish, in written and oral forms
- Ability to organize and work with detailed communications
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Basic knowledge of ARD process
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, special education forms and documents
- Ability to type 35 wpm, or more with proficiency

Experience
- Two years experience as a bilingual instructional assistant with some knowledge of child development; demonstration of proficiency in a specialized skill area; or experience related to working with students or parents, such as work in church-related schools, day campus, youth groups, private schools, or licensed day centers; or similar experience.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn the Admission, Review and Dismissal process.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Interpret from English to Spanish and Spanish to English at scheduled Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee Meetings, parent conferences, phone conferences, psychological evaluations, related service and speech therapy sessions, and special education functions.
- Transcribe special education documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English for the Office of Special Education Services.
- Travel to campuses to provide interpreting services as directed by the Director of Special Education.
- Prepare Spanish translation for correspondence and other communications; duplicate and distribute as directed.
- Assist with data input into the special education student management system as directed.
- Assist with the instruction of students with disabilities during the summer instruction sessions as directed.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with school personnel, community members, students and parents.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Maintain documentation of scheduled campus visits.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
