Camp Long is one of 4 facilities overseen by Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute (YLI). YLI is a vital component of Clemson University’s outreach effort by using the research and knowledge of the University faculty and staff to develop programs that reach youth.

Camp Long is a 400 acre camp located right outside of Aiken, SC. We host camps and rental groups, as well as, house Tall Pines Charter School on this property. The camp facilities host groups up to 250 people. We are located close to the Interstate and provide quick access to Columbia or Augusta (each about 30 minutes away).

The facility director position is responsible for maintenance, construction and facility staff at the site.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

1. Oversight and skills needed in Construction:

Carpentry –

-Ability to read blueprints, drawings, sketches

-Ability to take measurements and calculate size and amount of material needed

-Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other material according to measurements

-Build window frames, doors, staircases, and frame buildings buy using raw and preconstructed material

-Layout floorings, roofing’s, or drywalls ensuring they are level and compatible

Electrical-

-Ability to install and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in buildings

-Ability to install conduit and pipes to house electrical wires and cables

-Ensures piping complies with electrical codes

-Ability to install circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connects wiring to them

Plumbing –

-Ability to install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial and residential structures.

-Experience with pex, cpvc, pvc, copper, galvanized, and terracotta piping

HVAC-

-Knowledge of HVAC systems and how to troubleshoot repairs in parts including electrical & plumbing

-Ability to install and repair basic HVAC systems including duct work

-Ensure system works effectively

2. Management Skills

-Must be a strong leader with the willingness to learn

-Excellent management skills and techniques to manage a staff of 5-10 people

3. Facility Maintenance

-Oversight of maintenance & maintenance staff including all facility needs (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, construction, etc…),

-Oversight of staff maintaining landscaping of facility & building upkeep.

-Maintaining a weekly, monthly, yearly maintenance schedule for facility and all functioning pieces.

-Responsible for all facility staff with such duties as hiring, training, leading and evaluating

-Maintaining fleet housed at Pickens including buses, vans, and cars (regular maintenance). Also hiring and oversight of CDL approved bus drivers.

-Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

-High School Diploma.

-At least 10 years of construction & management experience.

-Experience with management of sites/retreat centers preferred.

-Excellent leadership, communication, and facilitation skills required.

-Must be willing to sacrifice, adapt and work hard as part of a team pursuing an objective.

-Must be physically able to perform the tasks required and the stamina to work long hours.

SALARY:

We offer a competitive package with salary ranging from $55,000 to $60,000 and a state benefits package.
