Technician responsibilities also include the responsibilities of a cashier (not limited to ring purchases, record pick-up in the logs required, verify customers receive the correct prescription(s), correctly make "offer of pharmacist counseling," help patients with prompt and friendly service).
Maintain an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated.
Maintain and keep patient information with the HIPAA guidelines.
Greeting patients and health care personnel in person and by phone; assisting with inquiries and customer service issues that do not require a pharmacist’s professional judgment.
Help patients find over-the-counter medications.
Responsible for accurately and efficiently reading, interpreting and computer entry of prescriptions (hard copies and escripts). This includes but is not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, and insurance billing (always checked by a Pharmacist).
Must be able to read and interpret prescription terminology and medications
Make sure all needed patient information is collected.
Must be able to assist pharmacist with insurance and medical calls.
Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
Operational duties a pharmacy tech must perform include retrieving/pulling, counting and measuring medications; labeling containers.
Reconstitute oral liquids where permitted by state law.
Process prescriptions in a timely order and manner so as to best take care of patient needs
Assisting to maintain inventory and inventory count; this includes checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipate needed medications and supplies, placing orders, verifying receipt of orders and removing/returning outdated products (both in the pharmacy department and over-the-counter).
Stock shelves and ensure proper rotation of stock.
Administrative responsibilities of a pharmacy technician include completing paperwork, pricing drug orders, and storage of prescription forms and invoices in an organized manner.
Participate in mandatory training programs such as CMS and HIPPA.
Assisting to maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Keep pharmacy department supplies (e.g., vials, bottles, bags, receipts, staples, tape, etc.) well stocked
Contributes to team effort.
