General Description of Position

Performs a variety of intermediate clerical duties within an assigned area of responsibility that relates to the processing and maintenance of records, and works according to set departmental procedures. Work product for this area includes processing documents for court cases accurately, loading and entering new cases into the case management system, drafting and sending out correspondence, and answering general and case specific questions for the public, coworkers and outside agencies. Accountable for assisting the Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller in achieving the objectives of the organization. The deputy clerks report directly to the departmental supervisor who follows the the Clerk's standard operating procedures and policies.

Requirements Candidate MUST Meet:

  • have a high school diploma or its equivalent (proof required.)
  • have typing skills of at least 30 CWPM (test required).
  • be able to compose a letter using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  • have basic math skills.
  • have at least six months of continuous and relevant work experience. This may include, but is not limited to working in a clerk's office, other governmental entity, legal office, or in another office with a very similar work environment.
  • have reliable transportation, possess a valid drivers' license and have the ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • have the ability to effectively and patiently deal with problems and cope with customers (internal and external) in an impromptu and often emotional situation(s).
  • ability to work with and maintain confidential and/or sensitive records.
  • have strong attention to detail and accuracy, as consequences of mistakes can be serious and may result in grim consequences to citizens (i.e. unwarranted arrests, extended time in jail, financial and legal implications, etc.)
  • ability to multitask and work under levels of high stress and pressure while producing accurate work and while maintaining a professional demeanor with coworkers, customers and outside agencies.
  • visual perception and differentiation to complete tasks, as well as excellent oral and written communications using the English language.
  • successfully pass a background investigation including criminal record, driving record, prior employment references and skills assessment.
  • successfully pass a drug test and be able to comply with the Drug Free Policy of this office.
  • be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, while concentrating on repetitious or complex tasks, and must also be able to stay focused while working in a fast paced and often loud environment.
  • be able to push and/or pull 10 pounds of weight, and be able to stretch, bend and reach.
  • considerable skill, adeptness, and speed in use of fingers, hands or limbs in performing work related tasks.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour
