Infection Preventionist
Summary:
In a direct patient facing environment, the infection preventionist professional implements, promotes and maintains an active infection prevention program through surveillance, investigative activities, consultation, education, policy development and research.
Job Description Responsibilities:
â— Conducts surveillance for hospital acquired infections; analyzes data. Generates reports, identifies trends.
â— Provides recommendations for improvement.
â— Investigates clusters of infections, outbreaks.
â— Utilizes knowledge of microbiology, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of patient care equipment. â— Develops and implements infection prevention policies and procedures.
â— Conducts audits on infection prevention practices.
â— Provides education and serves as a consultant to various levels of care providers.
â— Coordinates infection prevention committee meetings and other related activities. Coordinates the annual infection prevention risk assessment, review and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention plan. Reports communicable diseases as required by the Ohio Department of Health.
â— Collaborates with health departments in complying with issues related to outbreaks and control of communicable diseases.
â— Complies with mandates for state and federal public reporting of hospital acquired infections.
â— Other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Microbiology or closely related field.
â— RN preferred
Certifications:
* Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.
â— CBIC required after two years of hire date.
â— CBIC Certification will offset one year of required experience
