As a caregiver in the Automated Chemistry Lab Coordinator position, you will be able to assist the Automated Chemistry Laboratory, working closely with leadership and Medical Technologists. You will also handle personnel performing testing and reporting test results. Your primary duties will include:
- Monitoring test analyses and specimen exams to ensure that analytic performance is maintained.
- Reviewing quality metrics daily and as requested by Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor.
- Assist in participating in the recruiting process of personnel and performance evaluations.
- Monitoring lab operations and following all clinic and laboratory policies.

Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation. Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
- Participates in the recruiting process of personnel in his/her area.
- Assists in Performance Evaluation of personnel in his/her area.
- Monitors laboratory operations, ensuring all Clinic and laboratory policies and procedures are adhered to. When indicated, counsels and documents per established corrective action policies.
- Reviews QC and other Quality metrics daily, monthly, and as requested by the Laboratory Director, Technical Consultant, or Technical Supervisor.
- Identifies and assists in scheduling resources for orientation and training of new personnel.
- Under direction of the laboratory supervisor, assists in creating and managing staff schedules, including PTO and FLMA requests.
- Assures that 6 month and 12 month competency assessments are completed and documented on all personnel by qualified assessors and that competencies include the six parameters specified in the SOP. If qualified under Education Pattern I, may perform competencies; If qualified under Pattern II, may perform competencies on high complexity testing but only provide oversight on moderate complexity.
- Resolves technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established either by the Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor.
- Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Notifies Lab Director, Technical Consultant, or Technical Supervisor immediately if assay problems are detected.
- Provides troubleshooting oversight and ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
- Is aware of regulatory requirements in the laboratory and satisfies requirements pertaining to specific job duties.
- Performs duties of Testing Personnel as needed. Maintains competency and complies with all policies and procedures.
- Assists in maintaining SOPs for compliance and accuracy.
- Assists in inventory management, including the ordering of supplies necessary to perform all aspects of the testing process.
- May function as an educator, providing instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and the application of laboratory test protocols.
- Under the direction of the Medical Director or Technical Supervisor, assists in the selection, validation and verification of new assays.
- Attends in-house meetings as needed.
- May attend technical meetings or off-site training opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Pattern I:
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from a four-year college or university
AND
- Have at least two years of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing.
Pattern II:
- Meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel. See Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, § 493.1489 Standard; High Complexity Testing Personnel Qualifications.
AND
- Have at least three years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in non-waived testing
- Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided. Education will be verified.
- Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from by an HHS approved agency or nationally recognized organization such as NACES (National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc) or AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc).
- If the required clinical laboratory training and experience occurred at an outside facility, a signed, official letter from the facility or organization is required which details the dates and laboratory discipline experience and training.
Certifications:
- MT (ASCP) or ASCP eligible preferred.
Competencies (Complexity of Work):
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
- Laboratory training or experience and can be met by any combination of years of clinical laboratory training or experience.
- Clinical laboratory training or experience can be met by:
- Medical technology internship.
- Full time experience performing non-waived testing for the required number of years.
- Part-time experience performing non-waived testing, with 2080 hours equivalent to one year.
Physical Requirements:
- Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope.
- The ability to distinguish colors.
- Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.
- May be required to stand for long periods of time.
- Light lifting may be required.
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
