Summary:

Develop and prepare cost estimates for electrical construction projects of varying size and complexity in the commercial, institutional and industrial sectors, both private and public.  Analyze the materials and labor required to complete projects taking into account appropriate profit margin.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyze and interpret all construction documents (electrical, mechanical, architectural, etc.) to accurately quantify all electrical scope items provided in bid package.  Attend pre-bid meetings to gather pertinent information as required.
  • Accurately quantify all material and labor requirements associated with the project.
  • Confirm commodity material pricing and prepare and solicit quotations for major buy-out materials.
  • Accurately input all relevant take-off  information into applicable computer software.
  • Evaluate and review of all estimates with the Chief Estimator for accuracy, value analysis and appropriate profit margin. 
  • Prepare recap/summary sheet for all estimates. Assist with final assembly of estimate for presentation to customer.
  • Manage multiple estimates simultaneously and prioritize estimates in accordance with estimate deadline requirements.
  • Work in conjunction with Customer, Chief Engineer, Engineers, Pre-Construction and Contract Managers to prepare an accurate bid proposal.   Assist Group and Contract Managers with estimating change orders as needed.  
  • Maintain necessary estimating records and supporting documents as required.
  • Ensure estimates are completed within the guidelines set forth by Cleveland policies and procedures, including ISO 9002 initiatives.
  • Assists in developing uniform procedures and standards for the estimating process.
  • Processes purchase inquiries, tabulating and analyzing quotations as to price, terms, delivery, and general conformity with requirements of the inquiry and specifications.
  • Maintain and improve accuracy of estimating database by updating and/or correcting commodity pricing, labor units, part numbers, accuracy, assemblies and templates.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience- Five years of related experience, or combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills-Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to speak, write and read English.
  • Mathematical Skills-Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills-To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the following programs: word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email and estimating (ex. Accubid).

Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications   

  • Must have working knowledge of electrical trade and high mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with conceptual estimating preferred.
  • Experience with Accubid Estimating software preferred.
