What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rental Assistant position at Clint Newell Auto Group?
Position Summary:
The Rental Assistant is the primary assistant to all aspects of the renal division at Clint Newell Auto Group. In addition to rental responsibilities, the rental assistant also is the relief cashier in the service department for when the cashier is on break or lunch.
Essential Functions:
- Answer phones and take messages for specific people as assigned.
- Take thorough messages, indicating the caller’s first and last name, company name (if applicable), the time, and the message the caller wishes to leave.
- Provide basic information to customers with general inquiries.
- Determine the customers vehicle needs by asking questions and listening.
- Explain rental programs to customers.
- Recommend vehicles to accomplish customers needs satisfactorily.
- Compute rental charges, based on such factors as length of contract, anticipated milage, etc.
- Keep itineraries of customers.
- Demonstrate rental vehicles to customers and explain and review rental contracts with them.
- Deliver and/or retrieve rental vehicles for customers.
- Keep abreast on new products and services offered, their features, value, and any changes in price.
- Work with the service department and body shop to ensure the rental vehicles are reconditioned as expected and on schedule.
- Perform clerical duties such as scanning and typing forms, correspondence, and other documents as assigned.
- Receive cash, checks, and credit card payments from customers and record amounts received.
- Make change, cash, and checks and issue receipts to customers.
- Use dealership computer systems to compute and recompute customer bills.
- Handle customer complaints with integrity and poise while taking or referring the customer to the appropriate individual for further communication.
- Prepare daily cash reports, daily cash deposits, and other various daily reports.
- Reconcile and replenish cash boxes and petty cash.
- Post additional and modifications to inventory.
- Complete end of month reports.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Experience and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Technology- Experience operating office machines for copying, scanning, faxing, and printing. This includes Microsoft Office.
- Reading Comprehension – Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents in the English Language. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires an equal balance between sitting and standing with occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
