Job Title: Computer Operator
Department: Assessment Department
Position Reports to: Chief Assessor

Summary: The purpose of this position is to enter, maintain, and ensure accurate information is stored in the system database for the Assessment office and tax billings needs. The work is performed under the direction of the Chief Assessor.

Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Maintains and ensures proper operation of the Assessment Office computer system; troubleshoots problems and coordinates service and repair.
• Compiles, checks and processes data gathered by the Chief and Assistant Assessor, and other personnel and updates computer systems, spreadsheets and databases accurately.
• Prepares paperwork to notify various offices of changes.
• Assists tax collectors with questions, problems or requests.
• Prepares computer for run reports; prepares computer files for printing of taxes; processes and prints tax bills, duplicates and totals.
• Processes and prints information and prepares billing statements for reports and/or computer printouts sold by request.
• Orders and maintains inventory of office supplies.
• Performs other related functions as assigned or required.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
High school diploma or equivalent with vocational technical training in computer operations or a closely related field and one year of computer operation experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.

Additional Job Requirements:
Valid driver’s license, satisfactory pre-employment drug screen and background check, and completion of the computer skills testing.

• Includes the ability to perform subsequent action in relation to these computational operations.
• Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others, such as co-workers and the public, on how to apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations.
• Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as regulations, property record cards, letters, reports, forms, permits, purchase orders, status changes, tax bills, maps, laws, policies, procedures, correspondence and general operating manuals.
• Requires the ability to communicate orally and in writing with the Chief Assessor and all department personnel, other County departments, elected officials, attorneys, school districts, appraisers, realtors, tax collectors and the public.

Mathematical Ability:

• Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; and to calculate percentages and decimals.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as a computer and other office machines, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
• Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing moderately coordinated movements such as typing.
• Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects weighing five to ten pounds.
• Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.

Environmental Adaptability:

• Ability to work under safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses a very limited risk of injury.

Expectations of Employee:
In completing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the Assessment Department expects the employee will adhere to all county policies, guidelines, practices and procedures; act as a role model both inside and outside the County; perform duties as workload necessitates in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and be conscientious about meeting department productivity standards; and communicate regularly with supervisor about department issues.
