What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Artist position at Cloud Imperium Games?
We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Artist to join our team. As a Technical Artist you will be embedded with our talented 3D Artists and work alongside our skilled AI and Animation teams.
You will be an integral part of the creation process for interactable entities in Star Citizen and Squadron 42, getting involved with hands on implementation, performance optimisation, rigging, skinning, animating, asset markup and supporting the rest of the Art teams to bring new and interesting assets to life.
You will be working on a new and exciting team creating many prototypes and final pieces, ranging from basic functional props to detailed consumable items and animated entities.
We are a crowdfunded company and have a dedicated and enthusiastic community of backers who are helping us create the “Best Damn Space Sim Ever”.

Your responsibilities as a Technical Artist:
- Work closely with the AI and Animation teams to create functional props and assets.
- Create prototypes and templates with specific metrics, and then implement these templates amongst other teams.
- Use 3dsmax and Maya for rigging, skinning and animating assets.
- Use visual and node based scripting to give functionality and interactions to assets.
- Help maintain and improve current workflows and pipelines as you bridge the gap between art and tech.
What we expect from our Technical Artist:
- Someone who is passionate about innovation, improving pipelines, developing new tools, and adapting to new technologies.
- Experience in 3DS Max, Maya and Photoshop.
- Creativity to prototype and take an asset to new and interesting levels.
- Be a self-driven problem solver.
- Be a responsible and detail-oriented person.
- Passionate about video games and Sci-fi.
- Prior experience in the games industry.
Ideal candidate:
- Efficient in C , Python or Maya/Max Script.
- Knowledge of Blender, Houdini and Zbrush.
- Experience with Substance Designer/Painter are a bonus.
- Experience in AAA games.
