Center Director (or Pedagogista)
Children’s Montessori Center has served the greater community of Danvers, MA for over 30 years. Under new ownership, we are searching for an outstanding administrative candidate to assist transitioning Montessori to a Reggio-inspired philosophy. Implementing a Human Resource management philosophy, all organizational decisions are made with children’s best interests at heart.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with teaching teams to discuss and model emergent curriculum, classroom structure, positive teaching techniques, and Reggio Emilia philosophy
- Collaborate with Ownership on organizational goals, leadership strategies, and administrative duties
- Support classrooms to develop an enriched, inspiring learning environment for children
- Lead weekly team meetings, reflective supervision, and monthly staff meetings
- Support classrooms with coverage for breaks, planning time, vacation and sick days
- Build community relationships through ongoing communication, family events, and social media
- Promote curriculum documentation as a family educational resource
- Create a centralized library of materials emphasizing open-ended and natural materials
- Model a best practice approach to positive behavior management
- Communicate proactively to create a positive, team-oriented work environment
- Able to give feedback to ownership and receive feedback from educators
- Practice all EEC regulations and organizational policies
- Express a desire to grow and learn in an ever-changing field
Qualifications & Competencies
- EEC Director 1 Certification Required
- BA Degree in Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- At least 5 years working experience with children between 3 months – 5 years of age
- Coachable: Open to give and receive feedback for personal and professional growth
- Comprehensive knowledge of child development and learning philosophies
- Flexibility: Thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment; understands learning is in the process, not the product
- Drive: Passion to own one’s work; proactively creates systems and offers solutions to improve classroom and organizational efficiency
- Organized: Manages responsibilities in an efficient, productive manner; able to prioritize importance of tasks
- Child-Centered: All classroom and organizational decisions are made with children’s well-being at heart
- Whole Child Approach: Understanding the dynamics of each child’s temperament, previous experiences and home life when assessing individual needs and goals
- Family-Focused: Understands families are the most influential people in a child’s life; strives to build strong relationships with families
- Sense of Humor: Ability to laugh at oneself a must!
