What are the responsibilities and job description for the Survey Technician position at CME Associates?
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Willingness to work outdoors year round
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- A current and valid driver's license
Duties:
- Maintain field equipment.
- Proper procedures for setting up field equipment, field collimation and adjustments.
- Data collection techniques including description codes.
- Recovery of field evidence and boundary markers.
- Three-wire differential leveling.
- Reduction of level notes.
- Deed research at the County Court Houses.
- General understanding of survey terms and procedures in the preparation of boundary, topographic, route, environmental, hydrographic, and riparian surveys, road sections and utility as-builts.
- Assist Land Surveyor or Party Chief in the completion of projects on time and within budget.
- Attend training as required by supervisor, including course work in Surveying 1 and 2 at the County College level.
- Pursue Certified Survey Technician (CST) certifications.
- Assist in training of other staff members.
This is a physically demanding position that involves:
- Digging for property evidence with shovels and pry bars
- Walking over uneven, sloped terrain
- Carrying Field equipment
- Long hours on your feet
- Possibly the lifting of storm/sanitary manholes, storm/sanitary grates, or inlet grates (50-100 pounds)
- Hammering stakes and lathe into the ground
- Work in dangerous locations (construction sites & traffic lanes) which require the ability to walk/run to safety
- Outdoor environment which may cause encounters with bees, snakes, etc. that require immediate action to prevent injury
