Position Overview:

The Manager - Inbound Data Management role will report to the Head of CME Data Services Operations Strategy and Governance with the responsibility of working closely with internal consumers of external market data including Clearing House Risk, Global Operations, Products and Services, and Client Development & Sales, to procure third-party data on behalf of CME Group in furtherance of meeting goals and objectives related to product development, risk management, and other business activities. Moreover, this role will be responsible for facilitating the effective and appropriate capture and usage of inbound data from an internal perspective. This role by necessity also involves making lasting relationships with external data vendors ranging from large scale entities (eg. Bloomberg, Refinitiv) as well as broker/dealers (e.g., Tradition, TPICAP). He/she will be tasked with assessing the inbound market data needs and appropriately sizing purchases to enforce expense discipline while meeting the needs of our internal consumers. The candidate for this role will work to understand those needs, and work with vendors to build relationships that will allow for effective negotiation of purchase agreements.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Understand market data usage, redistribution, and licensing principles, including real-time as well as derived data policies and fees. Provide feedback on data contracts based upon this subject matter expertise.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders to understand current data usage and new dataset requirements, as well as educating internal users on data usage rights. Examine data product usage among internal stakeholders to evaluate cost savings.
  • Manage CME Group’s in-bound data budget for existing data contracts and new dataset priorities, working with Procurement liaison on all new and existing contracts. This includes strategic negotiation discussions for contract renewals, assisted and guided by Procurement liaison.
  • Establish a clear understanding of CME Group’s data products and the technology that supports them.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party data vendors, and facilitate meetings between vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Develop and generate reports and analyses for Senior Management based on vendor and subscriber information. This includes conducting simple to moderately complex financial and usage analysis.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on high degree of proficiency in Excel including the use of financial formulas, data analysis, and pivot table features
  • 5 Experience and/or understanding of derivatives and cash markets
  • 5 Experience in Market data industry preferred
  • Broad understanding of the data company landscape
  • Proficiency in Salesforce, PeopleSoft, or other financial database helpful, especially knowledge of SQL and/or Visual Basic programming

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, computer science or engineering. Advanced degree preferred.
