What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at Coastal Criminal Law?
A San Diego-based Criminal Defense Firm is seeking an experienced Paralegal. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in Criminal Law as well as extensive calendaring experience. The criminal law paralegal will be responsible for typical paralegal duties such as interacting with clients, scheduling court dates, maintaining attorneys’ calendars, preparing discovery, and interacting with the courts and administrative agencies.
- Help lawyers prepare for trial by preparing and organizing exhibits, assisting with client meetings, filing motions, conducting research on legal articles, and organizing and coordinating witnesses
- Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls and keeping our case filing system organized so all documents are readily accessible
- Conduct interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues
- Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers
- Assist lawyers in preparing legal documentation, pleadings, and correspondence including correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits
- Calendaring and scheduling court dates, maintaining attorneys’ calendars
- Preparing discovery, and interacting with the courts and administrative agencies
- Certification or associate degree in paralegal studies (bachelor’s degree is preferred).
- A minimum experience of three years in a paralegal role.
- Extensive calendaring experience.
- Exhibit a strong work ethic with high standards for reliability and quality of work.
- Must be able to prioritize and multitask with meticulous attention to detail.
- Must be punctual, reliable, and have good attendance.
- Have excellent spelling, typing, and grammar skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills in both oral and written form and interpersonal skills.
- An ABA-recognized Paralegal Certificate is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred but not required.
